Summer Reading Challenge 2017

Animal Agents Summer Reading Challenge 2017 starts Saturday 15th July.

Bookings for events will be taken from Saturday 15th July onwards.

The summer reading challenge is a national scheme to encourage primary age children to continue to read throughout the summer holidays. Research has shown that the Summer Reading Challenge improves children’s enjoyment of reading, as well as their reading range, confidence and motivation and it helps prevent the summer holiday dip in literacy skills. The theme this year is Animal Agents, illustrated by the UK’s best-selling children’s illustrator, Tony Ross. Libraries throughout the Bradford district will be involved in the Summer Reading Challenge. Every child who joins “Animal Agents” will receive a fold-up wallet with six stickers to collect. There are also bookmarks, fortune tellers, key rings and wristbands to collect. Every child who reads 6 books will receive a certificate and medal complete with presentation wallet, all featuring the amazing artwork of Tony Ross. Fantastic for your child to take back to school in September to impress their teachers and friends.

Animal Agents Summer Reading Challenge will encourage reading on a giant scale and all our libraries will have activities relating to animals including the weird and wonderful. We have performances of the “Owl Babies”; workshops with the Dog’s trust; handling exotic creatures with ZooLab; drawing, creating and animating animals with Dr. Simpo as well as discovering your hidden animal knowledge with the Ultimate Animal Discovery Challenge. We’ll have something for all children (and parents too!). To find out library opening times and more details please use www.bradford.gov.uk/libraries or contact your local library.
