Painter of Silence

A beautifully written but sad book. A theme of unrequited love with endearing characters in turbulent times.

A beautifully written and sensitive novel evoking the horror and change that war brings about. The cruelty of Stalin. The novel also shows that people can communicate in different ways and on different levels. 9/10

A novel about civilians in the war. Wonderful writer and story. 10/10

Requires patience when reading as the story unfolds slowly and painstakingly but worth the effort. The protagonists are male/female playing together as children but belonging to two different social classes. The second world war divides them and then brings them back together again during its aftermath. 9/10
